Snook remain strong if they are targeted in the right tide, Greenbacks AKA sardines are a mainstay in the diet of the fierce swift linesiders. The  Sardines are full of oils needed to float fertilized eggs deep into the estuaries of Tampa Bay. Big fish should be handled with care and revived and released quickly with the weather and water warming. These are the future of our fishery and needless time out of the water is a death sentence.

Spanish mackerel continue to WOW  anglers as many are pushing 8 lbs, small kings are in the mix as well as cobia and tarpon.

HOLY MACKEREL!

Spanish Mackerel

We are in the gut of Tarpon season, there are a ton if fish at Egmont and Bean point off Anna Maria island. Chumming with cut threadfin herring is best for the morning bite and on the incoming tide, drifting crabs in the afternoon on an outgioing tide can be amazing!

Cobia are on the prowl and hanging our near range markers, bait schools and many of the wrecks and shoals that are dotted across the bay.

Trout are still around and proving to be one of the most consistent bites the last week or two. They are eating everything from sardines to jigs. For the guys that like to toss artificials a neon shadtail type bait has been the hot color and style of bait.  fish them in a jig type motion over the deeper grass flats and in a couple feet or less, swim them.. Topwaters are great right at sun up through the bait schools, its almost irresistible.
