Tampa Fishing Charters Fishing Report 11/06/16
Rod Bending action on Tampa Fishing Charters
On a recent trip I had clients that just wanted to bed rods, the snook bite I have down to a science at the moment. It is extremely tidal and the window lasts about 2 hours. We had about 2 hours to kill before the window. This time of year the Spanish mackerel are around in abundance. The problem is usually its just too windy to reach the mackerel, but this day.
The Toothy Critters
Spanish mackerel have extremely sharp teeth, to combat cut offs I employ a long shank #1 Silver hook tied to a 40lb mono leader 15lb braid and a 300 or 400 series reel. Chumming gets these pelagic fish feeding and makes for targets to toss baits at. Hook ups are quick and violent and the runs are swift and strong. On the days we can get to the fishing grounds in the bay the bite is non stop! Charlie and his sister Whacked them for 2 hours solid before we moved on to snook fishing.
Snook Fishing Tampa Bay
Once our window began approaching we made our way deep into the back waters and found a wad of snook that were as ravenous as the Spanish mackerel. Here the rigging is different. I usually begin with a 20lb leader and stay there unless cut offs become a problem. A 1/0 circle hook sets itself and will help the hook up ratio soar. After locating the snook we blasted aver 40 before our time ran out. we left them biting. Motoring across the bay back to the marina in South Tampa, I realized we caught conservatively around 70 fish.
